Data Center Coalition Celebrates Successful Third Annual Virtual Blood Drive

Data Center Employees Pledge 814 Blood Donations to Serve Local Communities

Leesburg, VA (May 21, 2024) – Today, the Data Center Coalition announced the results of its third annual virtual blood drive campaign, #DataCenterSleevesUp, which ran from early April through mid-May 2024. During this virtual nationwide campaign, the data center industry logged a total of 814 pledges to donate blood.

DCC member companies utilized the American Red Cross “SleevesUp” and Vitalant Virtual Blood Drive platforms to track pledge donations as part of the #DataCenterSleevesUp2024 six-week virtual campaign. Member companies also held in-person blood drives and reported donation numbers to the DCC as part of the final industry total.

“Every day, the data center industry and its employees help promote thriving communities where they live and work in so many ways,” Data Center Coalition President Josh Levi said. “We are delighted that so many DCC members actively supported this year’s successful campaign to empower partners like the American Red Cross and Vitalant to address blood shortages and make a difference for patients in need across the nation.”

Seventeen data center companies participated in the 2024 campaign, including Aligned Data Centers, Amazon Web Services, CloudHQ, Cologix, Compass Datacenters, CoreSite, CyrusOne, Digital Realty, EdgeCore Digital Infrastructure, Equinix, Google, Iron Mountain Data Centers, Microsoft, QTS Data Centers, Quantum Loophole, Vantage Data Centers, and Yondr Group.

Equinix registered the most pledges among participating member companies with 297.  QTS registered 126 pledges and Iron Mountain registered 63.

Quantum Loophole registered pledges from 53% of their reported U.S. employees. CloudHQ registered 33% and both Cologix and QTS registered 11%.

"We are so grateful for the Data Center Coalition's partnership and support of the Red Cross. Together, we're helping save lives," said Juan Garcia, Executive Director of the American Red Cross of Northern Virginia. "We give our heartfelt thanks to the hundreds of generous data center employees who have pledged to donate. Each and every blood donation makes a difference and helps maintain the blood supply for hospital patients in need."

“We are grateful that the Data Center Coalition organizes blood drives each year across the data center industry to help patients in their communities,” Vitalant Vice President Anne Burtchaell said. “Whether it’s an in-person drive or a virtual blood drive, the Data Center Coalition helps ensure there is blood on hospital shelves so that patients can get the lifesaving transfusions they depend on.”
