Data Center Coalition Celebrates Successful Second Annual Virtual Blood Drive

Data Center Employees Pledge 775 Blood Donations to Serve Local Communities

Ashburn, VA (June 27, 2023) – Yesterday, the Data Center Coalition announced the results of its second annual virtual blood drive campaign, which ran from early May through mid-June 2023. During the virtual nationwide campaign, the data center industry logged a total of 775 pledges to donate blood, a 54% increase over DCC’s inaugural campaign in 2022.

DCC member companies utilized the American Red Cross “SleevesUp” and Vitalant Virtual Blood Drive platforms to track pledge donations as part of the #DataCenterSleevesUp2023 four-week virtual campaign. Member companies also held in-person blood drives and manually reported donation numbers to the DCC to be counted towards the final industry total.

“The data center industry is committed to strengthening the communities where their teams live and work,” said Data Center Coalition President Josh Levi. “We are grateful to have partnered with the American Red Cross and Vitalant on this campaign to provide our members an opportunity to come together and provide potentially life-saving support in communities across the country.”

Sixteen data center companies participated in the 2023 campaign, including Aligned Data Centers, Amazon Web Services, Cologix, CyrusOne, Digital Realty, EdgeCore Digital Infrastructure, Equinix, Google, Iron Mountain Data Centers, Microsoft, Prime Data Centers, QTS Data Centers, Quantum Loophole, STACK Infrastructure, Vantage Data Centers, and Yondr Group. Equinix registered the most pledges among participating data center companies with 205. Amazon Web Services registered 198 pledges and QTS Data Centers registered 98.

“By partnering with the Data Center Coalition, hundreds of data center industry employees are committing to help save lives,” said Erwin Stierle, executive director for the American Red Cross of Loudoun and Prince William Counties. “Through the #DataCenterSleevesUp2023 online campaign, nearly 800 units of blood have been pledged to ensure those in need have access to lifesaving blood.”
